Dalai Lama defines himself as a simple Buddhist monk. He was born in 1935, 6 July, in a farming family in a tiny hamlet located in northeastern Tibet. At the age of 2, the child, then named Lhamo Dhondup, was known as the incarnation of the previous 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso.

He is thought to be indications of Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig, Bodhisattva of Compassion, and the patron saint of Tibet.
